Mint Presents…

A relatively new addition to the Leeds clubbing scene, Mint Presents is series of events showcasing artists who have their roots planted firmly in Techno soil.

The previous event with Sandwell District and Chris Leibing was a spectacular occasion and a real treat to hear some pure techno sounds emanating from Mint’s tuned to perfection Funktion-One sound system and that night really set the tone for future events to live up to.

The upcoming event on Saturday 3rd September Mint Presents.. Speedy J, Surgeon and Matt Cooper.

For anyone unfamiliar with Speedy J, he is a Dutch DJ & producer real name Jochem Paap who has been a pioneer of European Techno since the early 90’s, originally releasing his work on legendary labels such as Plus 8, Warp and Novamute, and now on his own Electric Deluxe. Also known for his series of “Collabs” releases where he collaborated with various artists including Chris Liebing who he then embarked on a “Collabs” tour with.

Over the years he has adapted and evolved his sounds to many sub genres of Techno and recently has returned to the ever more popular old school sounds with a modern edge, using the latest technology at his disposal and creating Peak Time Techno fused with Experimental soundscapes in DJ sets and in his Live setups.
Co-headlining is Surgeon, a great ambassador for British Electronic music, real name Anthony Child, there isn’t many a DJ on the planet with a pedigree such as his, releasing on Techno treasury labels such as Tresor, Counterbalance and Warp records his production and remixing skills are possibly as famed as his DJ sets.

Formally one half of British Murder Boys, a collaboration with Karl O’conner (Regis) now of Sandwell District fame and releasing many a record on Birmingham’s Downwards Label, together they helped shape the UK’s Techno scene throughout the 90’s and early 2000’s. Forward thinking on the use of technology in performance, Surgeon was one of the first artists to use ”Abelton” Live in his set ups.

Supporting Speedy J and Surgeon will be the ever popular and Leeds favourite Matt Cooper. Having played alongside many of the worlds best DJs during his residency at Dirty Disco over the years and having recently supported Adam Beyer at the O2 earlier this year Matt returns to Leeds to open up at Mint Club fresh from a season in Ibiza playing numerous occasions at the famed Space nightclub where he won a Pioneer DJ competition a few years back. Expect an energetic performance both sound wise and physically as Matt gets into his groove behind the mixer where he is legendary with his skills.

In Short It’s going to be a big one and not for the faint hearted, expect balls to floor Techno all night long.
