Electric Broxton – Win a pair of tickets
Electric Brixton open its doors on Saturday 24th September. Formerly The Fridge, Electric has undergone a major £1,000,000 facelift and is set to become the latest state of the art music venue to open in London, hosting both DJs and live acts. Opened as a cinema in 1913, the new look venue will be able to comfortably deal with festival sized productions and stadium set-ups.
For the Grand Opening, Electric presents one of the finest lineups to be showcased in the Capital in 2011. Chicago’s legendary Felix da Housecat headlines in an exclusive UK performance ahead of the release of his new ‘Best Of Felix da Housecat’ album. As a two-time Grammy Award Nominee, Felix da Housecat helped bring electro to the masses through his groundbreaking album ‘Kittenz & Thee Glitz’, collaborations with P. Diddy, James Murphy (LCD Soundsytem) and Miss Kittin and remixes of Madonna, Marylin Manson and Nina Simone. Felix’s pioneering spirit continues to this day with his sound responsible for shaping the electronic music scene of today.
Another pioneer will also join us for the Grand Opening of Electric; DJ Hell. Through his label Gigolo Records, Hell has been at the forefront of the electro and techno scenes for the best part of 25 years. Gigolo is now one of the world’s most successful electronic record labels, specialising in electro, house and techno with 80′s pop and disco influences. Gigolo has released records and been instrumental in the careers of the likes of Dave Clarke, Jeff Mills, Miss Kittin & The Hacker, The Advent, Fischerspooner, Tiga and Vitalic. Coming as part of his ‘Eat My House – Baby!’ and off the back of his ‘Teufelswerk House Remixes’ album , we’re delighted to welcome DJ Hell to Electric next month.
Hannah Holland is a product of all the best bits of London club culture. She has gone on to DJ at some of the biggest venues and festivals around the world including The Warehouse Project, Fabric, Exit festival and Amnesia Ibiza, whilst running the hugely successful club night and label Batty Bass. Her groundbreaking DJ sets condense the most innovative and exciting sounds into one frenetic curly haired whirlwind of a DJ.
Since exploding onto the scene as co-promoter of London’s Nag Nag Nag club, JoJo De Freq has become a sought after DJ, spinning regularly at the likes of Fabric, Wet Yourself and Bugged Out. Her sets skillfully mix tuneful techno, electro-disco and synthetic house, whilst her spirited style and attitude has found her in demand internationally with gigs both in the UK and beyond.
As a founding member of the ever dynamic Moda collective alongside Radio 1’s Jaymo & Andy George, Tom Staar has played a huge part in creating one of the UK’s most exciting new music brands. His sound strays from the gameboy melodies of his debut Console EP, to the darker, techno-tinged fixtures on his follow-up release, Heavy Artillery. With Fake Blood, Crookers, Sinden and Annie Mac amongst his fans, Tom is one of the most eagerly watched new names on the block.
Completing the line-up we welcome Keith & Supabeatz. The Italian born DJ duo have been a rising sensation in recent years having received extensive radio play from Kissy Sell Out and Jaymo and Andy George. In 2010, they signed to Southern Fried Records, releasing their newest EP, ‘Higher Place’, as well remixes for Mighty Dub Katz, The 2 Bears, and Crookers. The future looks bright for this duo and we’re extremely excited to welcome them both to Brixton for the launch of Electric.
