Space – Ibiza

If you like myriad styles of electronic music, there’s no better place in Ibiza (the world?) to party than the Sunday We Love… parties at mega club Space. With the closing parties coming up, let’s look back at one of the events Alex Jukes went to in July.

So it was that we rolled up to the front door hot at the prospect of seeing some of the planet’s finest artists from the worlds of house and techno.

Making our way through the club, thousands of fresh face ravers are already grooving away across all the six different rooms and terraces – all of them clued-up, all of them looking sharper than your average clubber and all of them here to party like there’s no tomorrow for the full 14 hour programme Space have served up.

Having a acquired a drink, we settled into the rolling, jacking tech house of Joris Voorn very quickly, and were happy for him to take us with him wherever he went. Masterfully mixing through some oh-so-danceable beats , the Dutchman also managed to weave in some of his own records with a hot remix of Nalin & Kane – Beachball going down particularly well. After that we were treated to a much rougher and trippier ride courtesy of San Fran’s leading wonky and quirky house man Claude von Stoke who kept the energy levels high throughout his most colourful set.

One of the main draws of this party is the Terrace. Wrestling for our own space on the dance floor we made it out in time for Groove Armada – working through all manner of sun drenched and recognisable house and Balearic tunes, they had the whole crowd] wooping on demand and dancing without reserve all the way through their set.

Closing the outside terrace was Space resident Jonathon Ulysses – you don’t play this club week in week out for as long as he has unless you’re as adroit a DJ as any of the more celebrated names. And so he showed himself to be – working through a selection of sometimes anthemic, sometimes driving, sometimes vocal house and electro cuts, Ulysses carried the now weary, though no less keen, crowd right to the final beat of another epic party.

So, all in all, we’re happy to report Space was as busy – and importantly as vibrant and energised – as ever – and that’s no mean feat for a club this size and for a party spread out as ]long as this. (As well as those mentioned here, there were also deep house sets from Dixon, techno from the masterful Carl Craig, beats, breaks and bleeps from exclusive resident James Zabiela as well as a whole load more).

Basically, if you go to Ibiza and want a quintessential clubbing experience, We Love… should be your first and last port of call.
